Thirty-six years have passed since the original Top Gun hit theaters, and fans have not forgotten about it. Despite the long wait, Paramount is not rushing to discuss a sequel. Robbins explained that he does not want to “speculate” on a Top Gun 3 in an interview with Variety and is relieved to let his current film do well before thinking about the next one.
When asked if there would be a third Top Gun, the president responded: “Let’s see where we are 35 years from now. I don’t want to speculate. This is an incredible run. The sky is the limit for this movie.”
In conclusion, Robbins is satisfied with the success of Top Gun: Maverick and has no plans for the series at this time. There’s been a lot of speculation that the prior copyright dispute has prevented the studio from going ahead with a third film.
