Netflix has recently secured a deal for David Yates’ ‘Pain Hustlers’ to the tune of around $50 million, according to Variety. Scriptwriter Wells Tower of ‘The True American Writer’ fame has penned the screenplay and stars Emily Blunt in the lead role.
The deal comes amidst a considerable drop in Netflix subscribers, triggering stock liquidation and layoffs. Increasing subscription prices coupled with a lack of interesting content are seen as the reasons for the subscribers’ mass exodus. It is hoped that films such as ‘Pain Hustlers’ will help the company win back, if not gain, new subscribers.
“Pain Hustlers” is a film about Liza Drake (Blunt), a high school drop-out who lands a job at a struggling pharmaceutical start-up. Through Liza’s determination and charm, she manages to turn things around for the company and herself but is soon embroiled in a deadly criminal conspiracy. It is a wild, dramatic, and hilarious journey to the corrupt core of the American Dream.
