Netflix Is Working With Microsoft to Offer Ad-Supported Subscriptions. Plans at a lower cost are offered.
To compensate for its declining subscription numbers, Netflix has revealed plans to introduce a more affordable ad-supported tier. Microsoft has now announced a collaboration with Netflix to make this happen. Netflix announced the news in a blog post, stating that it will use the Microsoft advertising platform and network of clients to offer cheaper access for individuals who want to subscribe to its streaming service but don’t want to spend too much money.

While no specifics have been announced regarding how these ad-supported tiers will operate, they’ll likely be similar to YouTube, which has advertisements at the start, end, and sometimes in the middle of videos.
“Microsoft has the proven ability to support all our advertising needs as we together build a new ad-supported offering,” Netflix wrote. “More importantly, Microsoft offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales side, as well as strong privacy protections for our members. It’s very early days, and we have much to work through. But our long-term goal is clear: More choice for consumers and a premium, better-than-linear TV brand experience for advertisers.”
There’s no timetable for the new ad-supported tiers yet, so keep an eye out for more information.
