This year, Netflix has come out swinging as a top challenger in several significant categories compared to other streaming services. Netflix received a record-breaking 105 Academy Award nominations, just behind HBO and HBO Max’s 140 options. HBO has the most-nominated series with 25 nods from the Academy, including Outstanding Drama and two Outstanding Actor bids for Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis got 20 nods.
Amazon’s Prime Video, on the other hand, has 30 nominations, and Paramount+ and Peacock only got 11 and three nominations, respectively. However, although Disney+ received much praise from critics and fans on social media, it only earned 34 nods.
The Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 12.
