Warmer Bros. Discovery’s logical sequel to the popular film Joker will commence filming soon, with a significant focus on taking place at Arkham Asylum. Lady Gaga will join Joker (played by Joaquin Phoenix) as Harley Quinn, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, and Catherine Keener.

David Zaslav stated in the company’s third-quarter earnings call that Director Todd Phillips would begin filming next month, which fits with earlier predictions that production for the sequel would take place by year’s end. If everything goes according to schedule, fans can look forward to Joker: Folie à Deux premiere on October 4, 2024.
In relevant news, the new Joker movie will not be related to James Gunn’s new direction.
This also applies to spin-offs that share the same setting.

James Gunn (director and screenwriter of Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad) and his producer Peter Safran were appointed co-chairmen of DC studios. According to Collider, they have plans to unify the current chaos within DC’s productions. This means that future films will canonically fit together in what is called the “DC Extended Universe,” but movies already in production will probably not be included.
The most likely scenario is that the Joker: Folie à Deux sequel will remain separate from Gunn’s DCEU, as was initially speculated when it was slated for release in October 2024. This mainly affects fans’ anticipation of the sequel. There are also speculations that other spin-offs set in Arkham Asylum may be excluded in light of this news.
