Amazon Orders FTX Limited Series From Russo Brothers’ AGBO, ‘Hunters’ Creator David Weil.
AGBO, Joe and Anthony Russo’s production company, has exclusively set up an eight-episode limited series about the FTX scandal at Amazon, as Variety has learned.
David Weil will write the pilot and be an executive producer, and the Russos are in talks to direct and executive produce. Other executive producers include Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Natalie Laine Williams, and Scott Nemes for AGBO.

Amazon is planning to release the show in spring 2023.
“We are excited to be able to continue our great working relationship with David, Joe, Anthony, and the AGBO team with this fascinating event series,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “I can’t think of better partners to bring this multifaceted story to our global Prime Video audience.”
FTX was established in 2019 and rapidly became one of the most well-known cryptocurrency exchanges globally. However, in recent weeks the company has disintegrated, with upwards of $2 billion in customer funds missing and investigations initiated by federal agencies. There has also been an intense examination of Sam Bankman-Fried, formerly known as SBF, the former CEO and co-founder of FTX.
Insiders claim that the new Amazon series will be inspired by various journalists’ reports on FTX and Bankman-Fried, though they must clarify the sources they plan to use. There have also been talks with multiple actors from Marvel–all of whom have worked with the Russos in the past–about having them play significant roles in the show, but nothing is set in stone.
“This is one of the most brazen frauds ever committed,” the Russo brothers said. “It crosses many sectors—celebrity, politics, academia, tech, criminality, sex, drugs, and the future of modern finance. At the center of it all sits an extremely mysterious figure with complex and potentially dangerous motivations. We want to understand why.”
The news of the series comes after Variety wrote an article about FTX’s collapse and how it caught Hollywood’s attention. This is also the latest limited series that tells a story about a modern entrepreneur and their company’s rapid decline. Amanda Seyfried took home the Emmy for best actress in a limited series recently, playing Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s “The Dropout.” Meanwhile, Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway starred in Apple’s “WeCrashed,” which detailed WeWork’s ascent and subsequent crash under Adam and Rebekah Neumann. Showtime’s anthology series “Super Pumped” stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Travis Kalanick, the former CEO of Uber. A second season about Facebook is currently being prepared.
In 2018, after the Russos’ success with “Captain America” and “Avengers,” they inked a deal with Amazon for the large-budget spy drama, “Citadel.” Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra, this series plans to create global and local spinoffs. Season one wrapped earlier this year following reshoots; however, a premiere date has yet to be announced.
Weil has only collaborated with the Russos and AGBO on “Citadel” thus far, but this is his third show with Amazon. He created and ran the conspiracy thriller series “Hunters,” which will end after its second season.
CAA and Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger LLP represent the Russos, while Weil is represented by CAA and Lichter Grossman.
