Netflix Announces Grand Opening of Major Studio in New Jersey

Date:

The Eatontown Assemblywomen are celebrating Netflix’s grand opening of Ft. Monmouth Film Studio, an exciting new venture that promises to bring jobs and economic growth to the area.

On December 21, Assemblywomen Marilyn Piperno and Kim Eulner exuberantly praised Netflix for purchasing 292 acres at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown, NJ.

Two local Republican Statehouse seat-holders, Piperno and Eulner, lauded the sale as it will bring much-needed film industry jobs to New Jersey. Furthermore, Gov. Phil Murphy has supported this transaction since he initially tried to lure Netflix into moving in 2021 due to Georgia’s discriminatory voter ID laws, which should be a factor when deciding where films are made. Through his efforts, we now have an influx of new business opportunities with the potential for real change here at home!

“We are thrilled that Netflix has chosen to open a studio in Eatontown, bringing with it new jobs and opportunities,” said the two female lawmakers. “This is great news for the Eatontown community, as well as surrounding municipalities and Monmouth County, and will be a tremendous boost to our local economy.”

In the coming years, Netflix will begin filming movies and television shows at Fort Monmouth. Although no filming is scheduled for 2023, they plan to build a state-of-the-art studio campus filled with 12 soundstages of various sizes capable of providing world-class productions.

On December 21, the monumental Fort Monmouth Economic Development Authority board – with Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver and heads of NJ DEP, state Department of Transportation, and mayors from Eatonton, Tinton Falls, and Oceanport – graciously approved the sale.

The board voted to accept Netflix’s offer of $55 million in exchange for the 292-acre parcel. Here are all the Board members who approved the sale.

As Monmouth County’s most significant employer, Fort Monmouth provided more than 15,000 employment opportunities before the U.S. Army shuttered it in recent years. Before its closure, the base served as home to the U.S. Army Military Academy Preparatory School and the renowned U.S. Army Signal Corps – a testament to Fort Monmouth’s place of importance within our nation’s military infrastructure!

The closure of Fort Monmouth has been estimated to have cost the state economy an astounding $3.3 billion, with Eatontown and Tinton Falls feeling the brunt of its impact.

It is expected that the 292-acre Mega Parcel will create an estimated 1,000 brand-new employment opportunities.

“Residents hope these effects will reach beyond Eatontown and neighboring communities, strengthening the entire region’s financial well-being,” said Piperno and Eulner. “With this massive investment comes the immense potential for Eatontown and all of Monmouth County, bringing with it good-paying jobs and making New Jersey a significant player in the entertainment industry.”

Residents of the Monmouth County towns of Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Colts Neck, Deal. Eatontown, Freehold Township, Interlaken Loch Arbour Long Branch Neptune City, Neptune Township Ocean Township Red Bank Shrewsbury Borough Shrewsbury Tinton Falls and West Long Branch are represented by Republican Assembly Reps Piperno and Eulner as well as Democrat state Sen. Vin Gopal in government offices.
