Futurama is an animated Sci-Fi sitcom created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The animated series centers on the adventures of a pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, who, after being cryogenically frozen for one thousand years, finds employment at an interplanetary delivery company in the 31st century.
The series concept was created in the late 1990s while Groening was working on the Simpsons. But, in 1999 to 2003, Fox ceased all production. Reruns were played in 2003 on Cartoon Network’s Adult swim from 2003 to 2007. It was later revived in 2007 for several direct to DVD films. Comedy Central later made an agreement with 20th century Fox for rights and syndicating new episodes. Making a new fifth season. Futurama has been renewed for a seventh season and set to air in June 2012, and Summer 2013.
Futurama has received critical acclaim and received 17 Annie Awards, and 10 Emmy awards nominations.
