Increased by a Friday-the-13th launch, FilmDistrict’s low-budget horror sequel “Insidious Chapter 2″ beat many critic expectations with an estimated $41.1 million, making it the largest opening in September for a horror film.

Most of the revenue came from midnight and Friday movie viewers. There was a 33% drop on Saturday to Sunday box office sales, mostly due to the Friday-the-13th hype was all over.
