New Movie Studio Being Developed for Atlanta’s Civic Center

Date:

Following the announcement for a larger tax credit in Georgia, producers are planning on turning Atlanta’s Civic Center into a film studio.

According to recent reports, big changes could be expected in Atlanta, Georgia as investors are interested in turning the Atlanta Civic Center into a film studio.

The project plans include film and television studios surrounded by a performing arts center, a hotel, and a mix of residential, office and retail space, which could transform the downtown Civic Center property into a regional tourist destination.

It is one of the more ambitious concepts to emerge so far as the city prepares to put the 19-acre Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center site on the market – yet another project that demonstrates the booming film & television industry here in Georgia.

Tyler Perry has also shown interest in building a new movie studio. The actor, writer, producer and entrepreneur recently purchased the Fort Mac and plans on turning the land into a TV and Movie studio. Mr. Perry purchased the land for 300 million dollars and plans to turn the 330 acre property into a movie studio.

The internationally known Pinewoods Studios recently opened their doors for Marvel Studio’s new action movie, “Ant-Man“. Pinewood’s studio is a 288 acre site consisting of five sound stages totalling 100,000 square feet and 300,00 square feet of production office and workshop space.

According to recent reports, Georgia lawmakers are considering the expansion’s of the state’s film tax incentives to further encourage the rapidly growing industry.

A legislative study committee created during this year’s General Assembly session will begin meeting this summer to consider proposals to expand Georgia’s film tax credit program to pick up portions of the industry not covered by incentives enacted six years ago.

Over the last few years Georgia has taken over the film and TV industry. The Georgia 30% tax incentive, trained crew members and large airport, Georgia has caused producers to literally runaway from Los Angeles to the peach state.
