The Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL has started production in Savannah, Georgia.
While many people spent their Labor Day weekend behind the barbeque grill and amongst friends, Channing Tatum reunited with the cast and crew of Magic Mike.
Steven Soderberg, the director of Magic Mike, tweeted a photo of the sequel’s clapperboard on Sunday, adding, “It’s On”.

Steven Soderbergh will not direct the Magic Mike sequel and will instead work as a cinematographer, camera operator and editor for Gregory Jacobs, an assistant director who frequently worked with Soderbergh.
“He worked as a producer on the [2012] movie and has been Steven’s right-hand man for almost 25 movies.” But Tatum admitted that it would be intimidating to have Soderbergh behind the camera.
“He is such an opinionated and talented man, if he wants to do a five-minute tracking shot through a forest, you don’t want to doubt him. It would be like having sex with your girlfriend while her porn-star ex-boyfriend is in the room watching you.” [THR]
Channing Tatum will return to star in the film and worked on the sequel with Reid Carolin. The Magic Mike sequel will center on Mike (Channing Tatum) as he goes on the road doing performances across the country.
Joe Manganiello will also return, but Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer and Matthew McConaughey have not confirmed if they will return to the feature film.
An open casting call was held on Sunday, and thousands of aspiring actors showed up at Forsyth Park to submit photos for the first and only open casting call for Magic Mike 2.
Casting director Chad Darnell said the turnout had been amazing, with about 100 people gathered at the park by 8 a.m., an hour before the call was set to begin.
The casting call encouraged people from all backgrounds, shapes and sizes to come out, but Darnell said there is one thing they must all have in common: “We’re looking for people that want to have fun that’s the big thing about this movie and this crew… The actors Channing, Matt (McConaughey) and Joe (Manganiello), they all feed off the crowd so I need people that are going to have high energy, have a good time and be able to do it for days at a time.” [via]
Magic Mike XXL will be released in the US on July 1, 2015 and in the UK on August 7th.
