Robert Downey Jr. Returns as Iron Man in ‘Captain America 3’

Robert Downey Jr. is expected to join the cast and crew of Captain America 3

Robert Downey Jr. will return to the big screen as Iron Man in the upcoming Captain America 3‘ movie. The actor is currently in negotiations to join the cast and crew of the Captain America sequel.

According to reports, Marvel has no plans on creating another Iron Man movie, and many assumed Downey was finished with the character following the second and third sequels of the Avengers. But, this shocking news demonstrates that they are not done yet and plan on featuring Robert Downey Jr. as the super hero that nearly destroys the Marvel universe.

The two brothers who directed the popular Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the third Captain America movie. It is expected that Robert Downey Jr. could make more than $40 million plus residuals for this movie. Currently, the actor made $50 million for his work in the first Avengers, and The Hollywood Reporter says he is looking for a movie deal in that price range.

Sources indicate that the next storyline will center around the “Civil War” event series from 2006 to 2007. In the “Civil War” Captain America fought against Iron Man in a storyline that involved civil superhero rights. The comic book version centered around the U.S. government passing a superhero registration act with the two heroes fighting on opposite sides, Captain America hates the new legislation which puts the two superheroes against each other.

The new Captain America 3 movie will film in the newly constructed Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. We first reported the story in August and as production for Ant-Man draws close to it’s final martini shot, Marvel is busy planning their next movie.

Robert Downey Jr. has made a ton of money for Marvel and Disney. He has worked on three Iron Man movies helping the franchise reach $2.4 billion worldwide. Downey was also featured in the first Avengers earning a shocking $1.5 billion worldwide in 2012. Despite, having a week box office opening to his lawyer-drama, The Judge he still has the ability and fan base to return to the Iron Man character.
