Norman Reedus from says that reports that he doesn’t want his Walking Dead character to be gay are “bullsh*t”
Walking Dead star, Norman Reedus went to Twitter to end rumors that he is worried he will lose his female fan base if his character, Daryl Dixon is written as gay. The Walking Dead actor declared the claims are ‘total BS.’
Several celebrity gossip websites say that insiders close to the star of AMC’s zombie-drama report the actor is worried about the future of ‘The Walking Dead’.
‘Norman isn’t anti-gay in his personal life, but he’s become one of the biggest male sex symbols in television,’ they added.

‘He gets thousands of fan letters from women each week – along with dozens of marriage proposals.’
Reedus responded to the articles on Twitter, posting ‘This is total BS by the way.’
Norman Reedus said that he has played the character as someone who is conflicted about his sexuality and unwilling to confront it since the show’s second season following a conversation with the show’s co-creator, Frank Darabont.
‘I remember [talking to] Frank Darabont, after the first season – we were at a party in LA,’ Reedus told GQ Magazine in September.

‘He said, “I’ve got an idea for Daryl. He’s gay. Would you be interested in that?” I was like, “Let me hear you out.” He said, “Well, he’s prison gay. Like, you’ll catch him looking at a member of the same sex, but if you mention it to him, he’ll just stab you and be like, What the fuck? He will never admit it.” I was like, “That’ll blow minds – let’s do that.”’
Reedus told GQ that Daryl’s insecurities were what made the character interesting for him to take on as an actor.
‘He’s definitely not a ladies’ man or thinks of himself as having enough confidence to be that type of person,’ Reedus said.
‘I want to play him searching for confidence, not full of confidence, you know what I mean? I like all the little things that are awkward … I would rather play him like not somebody that’s got cool-guy moves or anything like that.’
Walking Dead comic book creator, Robert Kirkman told fans in August that they should not rule out a same-sex love interest for Daryl because it is possible for the show to feature an openly gay male character in a future season.

The TV series had a brief lesbian relationship between Alicia, played by Juliana Harkavy, and Tara Chambers, played by Alanna Masterson, but Alicia was killed off before the end of Season 4.
According to the comic books, there is only one prominent gay male character and that is Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe, a long haired and bearded martial artist. However, the TV version is different from the original comic book in many ways so it is unknown whether that character will appear on the show or if he will play the character, Daryl Dixon’s romantic love interest.
