Stolen emails from Sony reveal a planned Destiny’s Child biopic.
According to reports, an email dated December 4, 2013, from Screen Gems, Clint Culpepper to Sony CEO, Amy Pascal and a team of Sony execs discusses how Beyonce’s father, Matthew Knowles went to him to try and set up a Destiny’s Child biopic.
From the Daily Beast:
“Matthew Knowles, Beyonce’s Father wants to make the film of Destiny’s Child and came to me first,” wrote Culpepper. “He’s going to Universal next. Do we think it would be a successful film? They’re on Sony label. I’m just not sure that it’s not too soon.”
All the Sony execs return very enthusiastic responses, although there is a Destiny’s Child biopic currently slated for February 2015 on the Lifetime Network.
Destiny’s Child was an American R&B girl group whose final, and perhaps most recognizable, line-up comprised Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
After years of limited success, they were signed in 1996 to Columbia Records as Destiny’s Child. Destiny’s Child was launched into mainstream recognition following the 1999 release of their best-selling second album, The Writing’s on the Wall, which contained the number-one singles “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name”.
Despite critical and commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict and legal turmoil, as Roberson and Luckett attempted to split from the group’s manager Mathew Knowles, citing favoritism of Knowles and Rowland.
