The director of Fast and Furious 6, Justin Lin is set to direct the third Star Trek movie.
Justin Lin is best known for directing many of the Fast and Furious, has signed on to direct the third Star Trek movie, according to reports.
Justin Lin replaces Roberto Orci, who left the project earlier this month.
The first two installments of the Star Trek franchises were directed by J.J. Abrams, who did not return for the third so he could direct the new Star Wars film.
The most recent Star Trek movie, Star Trek: Into Darkness, made $467.4 million worldwide after opening in May 2013. The first Star Trek movie made even less, $385.7 million in 2009.
Justin Lin directed Fast & Furious 6, Fast Five, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and 2009’s Fast & Furious. He was most recently attached to direct The Bourne Betrayal, which was expected to star Jeremy Renner, but those plans were scrapped when Matt Damon wanted to return to the series. The new movie was directed by Paul Greengrass moves forward.
