Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut will not make it to theaters after so many people hated the movie.
Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, the movie everyone hated during this year’s Cannes Film Festival, will not be released in theaters. Warner Bros. will instead release the film via “home entertainment” next April, which probably means you can catch it on Netflix.
The movie was written and directed by Ryan Gosling, and centers around a down on her luck single mom whose teenage son gets mixed up with the town bully before finding an underwater utopia.
We posted casting calls for leading roles in the movie several months ago. But, unfortunately, Ryan Gosling’s movie was a major let down in the independent film festivals
People really hated this movie. Here’s what Justin Chang from Variety had to say:
Had Terrence Malick and David Lynch somehow conceived an artistic love-child together, only to see it get kidnapped, strangled and repeatedly kicked in the face by Nicolas Winding Refn, the results might look and sound something like “Lost River,” a risible slab of Detroit gothic that marks an altogether inauspicious writing-directing debut for Ryan Gosling.
