A Spaceballs sequel is coming soon.
With a new Star Wars Trilogy currently in development, comedian and filmmaker Mel Brooks said he is actively working on a sequel to the hilarious comedy, Spaceballs.
According to a recent appearance on Adam Corolla’s Take a Knee podcast, Brook’s confirmed the rumor that Spaceballs was in development. Brooks said that movie would be entitled Spaceballs: Search For More Money. He said that he plans to bring as many original cast members as possible, including Rick Moranis (Honey I Shrunk the Kids) who has basically retired from in the last couple of years.
In a 2014 interview with Parade, Brooks mentioned that screenwriter Tom Meehan had “some great ideas” for a sequel. However, Moranis’ participation (or lack thereof) has proved the biggest obstacle. “Without Rick, I wouldn’t do it,” Brooks explained. “I’ve got the helmet in storage, just waiting for him.” He added that he’s spoken with Moranis a few times over the years, but he’s “really strict” about remaining retired.
