Major movie studios typically ban things from time to time for obvious reasons; Sex, drugs, and adult themes are usually cut to a minimum in PG-13 movies.
But, what about smoking? Disney CEO Bob Iger recently created a new policy in all Disney productions banning all smoking in Disney and Marvel movies. However, the only time Disney will allow for smoking in a Disney production would be for historical acceptable.
This is what Bob Iger had to say, “For instance, we’ve been doing a movie on Abraham Lincoln, he was a smoker, and we would consider that acceptable.”
What is interesting to point out is the number of early Disney cartoons that feature smoking. Don’t believe me? Check out a few photos below:
But why is the ban happening?
There has been a whole lot of controversy surrounding smoke in movies for a while now. According to a 2012 study from the US Surgeon General, children aged 10 to 14 are more than twice as likely to try smoking when they’ve been exposed to it in movies. So, Disney is trying to make sure that they are a positive influence for their young viewers.
