‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ to film in Atlanta starting February 2016.
Everyone is really excited about the upcoming ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ or ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ but what about the box office smash hit ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’?
Writer and director James Gunn recently revealed on Periscope that production on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to begin February 2016 at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, which has quickly become the unofficial Marvel base of operations. The first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers’ movies were both filmed in London, but following Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ Marvel has filmed all of their movies in Atlanta. Currently, Marvel is using Pinewood Studios of Atlanta to film ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and it looks as though ”Guardians of the Galaxy 2′ will follow.
Is Marvel calling Atlanta home?
The next movie expected to film in Atlanta, Georgia is the Scott Derrickson’s ‘Doctor Strange’. It is rumored that all of the studios in London are being taken over by Star Wars, as Lucasfilm prepares to film ‘Rogue One, the Star Wars spin-off and ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’
Since, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is going to film in Atlanta, will this change development and production of the upcoming sequel? Of course many of the scenes were filmed in front of a green screen but, many other scenes used England’s countryside to capture several scenes. During James Gunn’s Periscope update, he also revealed that he is about 70 pages into the screenplay for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’, saying his pitch for the sequel to Marvel was the best experience he ever had with selling a movie. He also confirmed several key characters will reappear in the sequel.
We don’t know much about the sequel to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ but, you can bet that Chris Pratt, Zoe Saladana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper are heading to the peach state.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
