Bruce Jenner admits to Diane Sawyer: ‘I am a woman…I have the soul of a female’.
Many people will not take Bruce Jenner’s interview as a publicity stunt because Bruce Jenner is probably best known for being part of the whole Kardashian family, but Diane Sawyer’s interview of Bruce Jenner is an important moment in this country’s history.
A man who for the past forty years in the spotlight struggled with being masculine. Bruce Jenner was first an Olympic hero and then the father figure of a famous family.
“Yes, for all intents and purposes, I’m a woman,” Jenner told Sawyer after taking his hair out of a ponytail to let it down. He explained that he has the “soul of a female” and that his “brain is much more female than it is male.”
Many people are extremely supportive of Jenner. In a statement by the GLAAD CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, Bruce Jenner’s story will “inspire countless people around the world.”
“Today, millions of people learned that someone they know is transgender…By sharing this story, Bruce Jenner has shined a light on what it means to be transgender and live authentically in the face of unimaginable public scrutiny. Though Jenner’s journey is one that is deeply personal, it is also one that will impact and inspire countless people around the world.”
Later in the interview, Bruce Jenner made what some may view as an even more shocking revlation, he is officially getting his own series. Bruce Jenner will continue to tell his story with an eight-part docuseries on E! The show will cover his journey, living as a transgender woman.
“Bruce is incredibly courageous and an inspiration, and we are proud to be entrusted with this deeply personal and important story,” said Jeff Olde, exec VP of programming and development at E! “This series will present an unfiltered look as Bruce boldly steps into uncharted territory and is true to himself for the first time.”
