A Nintendo theme park is coming soon. Nintendo partners with Universal Studios to bring the Nintendo gaming system to life.
Nintendo has been working on rebranding itself beyond the traditional video game platform. Now, the video game industry giant has partnered with Universal Parks and Resorts to bring Mario, Donkey Kong and the rest of the company’s collection of characters to the parks in the form of Nintendo rides, games, and merchandise.
This is brand new territory for Nintendo, which previously has been extraordinary protective of it’s brand and image. As the Wii U console battled against Xbox One and Playstation 4, the company has been exploring new ways to monetize their products. Two months ago, the company announced their plans to make Nintendo games available on mobile devices.
Nintendo plans on producing video content based on its characters as well. For example, Netflix is currently in development alongside Nintendo bring ‘The Legend of Zelda’ to life.
“For Nintendo IP, a more active approach will be taken in areas outside the video game business, including visual content production and character merchandising,” the company said as part of its just-released annual earnings statement.
