Judge Joe Brown is Headed to Jail for 5 Days

Date:

Judge Joe Brown is sentenced to go to jail for five days.

Well isn’t this ironic. Judge Joe Brown began serving a five-day jail sentence on Thursday for a contempt of court charge stemming from a 2014 incident in which he made an outburst in another judge’s courtroom. He is serving his sentence at the Shelby County Corrections Center in Tennessee.

This conviction is the result of an altercation Brown had with Juvenile Court Mgistrate Harold “Hal” Horne in March of last year, when Brown was running for Shelby County District Attorney. The Wrap reports that he was at the courthouse to garner votes and was 20 minutes into watching a child support hearing in Horne’s courtroom, when he approached the bench and started with his outburst, over delays:

“At the time, Juvenile Court Chief Magistrate Dan Michael said that Brown ‘all but had the courtroom in a riot’ and launched into ‘a diatribe against Mr. Horne and the authority of the court.’”

Judge Joe Brown starred on the courtroom reality series Judge Joe Brown from 1998 through 2012-2013 TV season. Brown also presided over the last appeal of James Earl Ray in the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. TMZ notes that Judge Joe is being held in protective custody away from the general population and most likely loving it because he’s the only one in there:

Law enforcement in Shelby County, TN tell us Judge Joe will be kept away from the general population in a protective custody pod for his own safety. The kicker is he’s the only inmate in protective custody — so as king of the castle he can watch all the Judge Judy he wants!
