The next Thor and Alien movies will begin filming in Australia next year, according to a press release by the Australian government.
Australia just gave 20th Century Fox as well as Walt Disney’s Marvel Studios the green light to film their next movies in Australia. In addition, Australia will be giving the movie studios $34 million to to make the feature film.
Ridley Scott will direct the upcoming Alien movie and Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
While exact filming locations have not been announced, Disney recently finished filming their Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales at the legendary Gold Coast Studios in Queensland. But, even that movie had several obstacles to overcome. Such as Johnny Depp’s wife, Amber Heard, being charged with illegally bringing several dogs into Australia without quarantine regulations. Now, Johnny Depp’s wife is facing 10 years in prison and heavy fines if she is convicted.
Is Thor 3 no longer filming in Atlanta, Georgia?
Australian representatives encouraged the government spending by saying that it is the only way to compete with other countries such as America and England.
In fact, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said that Australia wanted Matt Damon’s new movie The Martian shot in Hungary.
It is important to point out that Thor: Ragnarok was expected to film in Atlanta, Georgia. Unless, Marvel plans on using both locations to film their Thor sequel, Atlanta may have lost out on a major feature film.
