The newest ad for Barbie’s Moschino doll features a boy for the first time in history.
“Moschino Barbie is so fierece!” the boy yells before putting a purse on the doll’s arm. The commercial features him and two girls showing off Barbie’s accessories and clothes from the fashion designer Moschino.
The commercial, which was released in early November, is not something new. Recently, Target announced that they will stop labeling toys for boys or girls and will simply use the term “kids” instead. Meanwhile, Hasbro’ redesigned their Easy Bake Oven to be more gender neutral.
Some critics have bashed this new line of commercial advertising and some believe that by not clearly identifying toys for boys and girls will be detrimental to gender identity to young and developing children. One YouTube commenter said, “Disgusting. That boy should be taken away from his parents and they should be charged with child abuse.”
While, researchers argue that removing these distinctions are a good thing.
