Harry Potter‘s Alan Rickman Dead at 69 after a long battle with cancer.
It’s a sad day for Hogwarts fans everywhere.
British actor Alan Rickman has died after battling cancer, according to a statement form his family.
“The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends,” the statement read.
With several decades acting in the film industry, Rickman became an international star in 2001 for his iconic role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series.
But, that was not his only acting job. Rickman was also featured in hit movies like Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Truly Madly, Deeply, Love Actually and Alice in Wonderland. However, his acting in the 1996 made for TV movie Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny landed Rickman an Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award.
Outside of acting in TV shows and movies, Rickman was a very successful British theater actor, earning a Tony Award nomination in 1987 for his lead role as Vicomte de Valmont in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
His final film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, is scheduled for release in May.
Rickman leaves behind his wife, Rima Horton, who he secretly got married to around 2012 after being together for over 40 years.
