Jennifer Lawrence Reacts to ‘Joy’s Oscar Snub

Date:

Jennifer Lawrence talks about getting nominated for another Academy Award.

Even though Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t appreciate people on their phone and her and Bradley Cooper rarely talk on the phone, Jennifer Lawrence is excited about the 2016 Oscars.

Jennifer Lawrence is Hollywood’s sweetheart. Nearly everything she does is perfect and legions of her fans line-up and around movie theaters in order to catch a glimpse of the Oscar winning actress on the silver screen. However, her latest project, Joy, was snubbed in the box office and the Hunger Games star was the only person receiving a nomination.

Days after winning a Golden Globe, Jennifer Lawrence received her fourth Academy Award nomination Thursday for her acting in Joy, the movie based on the life of Miracle Mop creator Joy Mangano. It would be the only nomination the movie would receive, ending director, David O. Russell’s hit streak; American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter were all nominated for best director and best picture.

When asked about her Oscar nomination Jennifer Lawrence said, “It feels amazing, and I’m really honored,” she said.

But, according to an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence said that winning awards is not a big deal at the end of the day. “This certainly doesn’t drive him,” she said. “He’s not petty.” Lawrence added: “Everyone worked on the film just as hard for me. And it’s such a personal movie for David.”

“Everyone worked on the film just as hard for me. And it’s such a personal movie for David.”

This should not come as a surprise as Joy wasn’t really ranked highly by movie critics. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes calls Joy a good movie only because of Jennifer Lawrence. “Joy is anchored by a strong performance from Jennifer Lawrence, although director David O. Russell’s uncertain approach to its fascinating fact-based tale only sporadically sparks bursts of the titular emotion.”

Maybe it was the acting tips from Robert De Niro that helped JLaw land her fourth Oscar nomination.
