Is ‘The Walking Dead’ Going to Boycott Georgia?

Date:

AMC, network of The Walking Dead urges Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to boycott the “Anti-Gay” bill.

Georgia’s film industry is in trouble…again. Following threats of boycotts from Disney and other major motion pictures over the “Anti-Gay” bill, a bill which makes it basically legal for businesses to discriminate against customers over the issue of same-sex marriagee. Now just hours of Disney’s announcement, AMC, which produces and airs The Walking Dead, is stepping in.

AMC stops short of boycotting Georgia if the new law passes. But it urges Governor Nathan Deal to veto the law:

As a company, AMC Networks believes that discrimination of any kind is reprehensible. We applaud Governor Deal’s leadership in resisting a previous version of this divisive legislation and urge him to reject the current version as well.

The Walking Dead, following Disney, is one of the biggest productions in Georgia’s film industry. Losing the series would basically mean losing millions in revenue for local businesses, as well as job opportunities. It may not be a blow that the Peach State’s film industry can really afford, if it wants to stay a booming industry. Gov. Nathan Deal will need to consider this as he looks at the legislation.
