A jury has convicted an actor who played a officer on the hit TV  The Shield of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife in . The verdict was read on Tuesday after a weeklong trial.

According to reports, Jace's defense team acknowledged that he his wife April and argued that he should be convicted of voluntary manslaughter because it was not a premeditated act. The prosecutor, however, argued that Jace was upset that his wife wanted a divorce and shot her in the back before taunting her and shooting her in the legs.

Jace told detectives that he didn't intend on killing his wife and only wanted to hurt her. However, according to Fox News, Jace's 10-year-old son testified that he heard his say, “‘If you like running, then run to heaven,'” before firing the second time.
