Anton Yelchin Died Days Before the Biggest Role of His Career

Date:

Anton Yelchin was days away from releasing the biggest movie of his filmmaking career.

The world is still reeling the passing of 27-year-old Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, who sadly passed away. The unexpected death of such a talented actor with a unique onscreen presence has devastated Hollywood, his family and friends.

In an interview with IndieWire, Yelchin’s friend and frequent collaborator Keith Kjarval the late actor was only three weeks away from starting production on his first directorial and screenwriting debut, Travis.

In the interview, Kjarval describes Travis as a “deeply personal” movie for Yelchin and what he suspected to be the first of many projects. The storyline of the movie is about a young actor and photographer who inadvertently watch a young woman’s murder:

“We were calling it a voyeuristic crime thriller. It was neo-noir, very urgent in morality, like a Dardennes brothers film.”

Yelchin had already cast two of his Green Room costars, Callum Turner and Milla Jovovic. Marilyn Manson was reportedly in the running to score the movie.

“I know for sure that this film was going to reveal the undeniable and indisputable fact that Anton is a very rare and exceptionally gifted artist. The amount of research and photography and art that he was pouring into this film was inspiring.”

His friend’s touching tribute explained what Anton Yelchin meant to him, and what he meant to his friends and family:

“What he gave us was an example of the joy we should all take into our passions and the spirit with which we should live our lives. And for those of us who are chasing that perfect note, he showed us time and again that it is possible.”

From his extensive work in all genres of film, there’s no question that we are going to lose dozens of amazing projects.
