Are the Kardashians Being Paid Illegally for Instagram Posts?

The Kardashian is accused of “deceptive marketing”

Truth in Inc. has threatened to report the Kardashian to the Federal Trade Commission for breaking federal labeling regulations in promotional social media posts.

It is hard to deny the fact that the Kardashian-Jenner family have dominated social media, where they are frequently sharing pieces of their personal lives alongside obvious promotional endorsements. But the organization Truth in Advertising believes that members of the family are being for several of these posts and the Kardashian family is not disclosing it.

Truth in Advertising says their mission “empowering consumers to protect themselves and one another against deceptive marketing.” Now, the group claims the Kardashian-Jenner accounts are getting paid under the table and eschewing federal labeling regulations in the process. After reviewing the accounts of Kim, Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian and their sisters Kylie and , the organization noted that “a plethora of posts do not clearly or conspicuously disclose their relationships with the companies being promoted in the posts as is required by federal law.”

The letter 27 different companies including Puma, Calvin Klein, JetSmarter, Fit Tea, Estée Lauder and Karl Lagerfeld. And the watchdog group vows to notify the Federal Trade Commission by Wednesday unless the issues are “fully corrected”.

While Truth in Advertising may have sent a “legal letter” to the family, they actually do not have any to take any legal action against them. In fact, only the Federal Trade Commission has the authority to do that via the Federal Trade Commission Act. However, the only legal authority the watchdog group may have is the ability to report the Kardashian-Jenner family.

That being said, the FTC could demand that the sisters hand over the profits from these posts, which could result in a multi-million dollar fine.
