Rolling Loud: The World’s Biggest Hip-Hop Festival and Cultural Phenomenon

Since its founding in 2015, Rolling Loud has grown into the largest hip-hop festival in the world, drawing hundreds of thousands of fans and hosting the biggest names in rap and hip-hop. Known as “the be-all of hip-hop festivals” by Billboard, Rolling Loud has become an iconic stage for groundbreaking performances, surprise guest appearances, and unforgettable pop culture moments.

History of Rolling Loud

Rolling Loud was created by Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, childhood friends who started by throwing parties and promoting live music events in Miami. Their vision led to the first Rolling Loud festival in 2015, a one-day event featuring Schoolboy Q, Juicy J, Currensy, and Action Bronson.

After quickly outgrowing its initial venue, Rolling Loud moved to bigger spaces such as Mana Wynwood Convention Center and Bayfront Park, eventually settling in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

Festival Growth and Global Reach

What started as a local event is now a global phenomenon. Rolling Loud has expanded to the Bay Area, Southern California, New York, Toronto, Sydney, and several European cities including Rotterdam, Munich, and Portugal. In 2025, Rolling Loud announced its first-ever India edition, set to take place in Mumbai.

Attendance has skyrocketed — in 2019, the Miami edition drew over 210,000 fans, cementing Rolling Loud as the premier destination for hip-hop lovers worldwide.

Iconic Moments and Pop Culture Impact

Rolling Loud has become a stage for some of hip-hop’s most memorable moments:

  • Meek Mill made a surprise return to the stage shortly after his release from prison in 2018.
  • Offset publicly apologized to Cardi B during her set in Los Angeles.
  • Lil Uzi Vert’s legendary two-story stage dive at Rolling Loud Miami.
  • Nicki Minaj became the first solo female rapper to headline Rolling Loud New York in 2022.
  • Don Toliver brought out Justin Bieber for his first live performance after canceling his Justice World Tour.

The festival has also been the site of intense headlines, from surprise Kanye West appearances to controversies surrounding crowd behavior and security.

Rolling Loud the Movie

In addition to the festival, Rolling Loud is heading to the big screen. Directed by Jeremy Garelick, the Rolling Loud feature film stars Owen Wilson and Christian Convery. The story follows a father who takes his son to the wild hip-hop festival, leading to comedic chaos as they navigate the crowds, eccentric personalities, and family dynamics.

Casting Directors Behind Rolling Loud

The casting team for the Rolling Loud movie is led by Mary Vernieu, a prolific casting director known for acclaimed films like Knives Out, Glass Onion, and Promising Young Woman. Her ability to balance star power with fresh faces ensures the film will have a dynamic and engaging ensemble.

Findley Davidson, known for Elsbeth, Caught Stealing, and Bad Monkey, contributes to assembling a talented cast that reflects the energy and diversity of the Rolling Loud universe.

Background casting is being handled by Casting TaylorMade, a boutique casting company with extensive experience connecting background actors and performers with TV and film productions. Their team specializes in ensuring authentic crowd scenes, which is crucial for a festival-based film like Rolling Loud.
