Selena Gomez is the most popular person on Instagram. In fact, Gomez’s Coca-Cola ad was the most-liked photo before Beyonce‘s pregnancy announcement dethroned it. Now, the actress, singer, and producer announced that she is “ghosting” the social network because she felt it was consuming her too much. Now, only her assistant has access to the account.
“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out,” Gomez told Vogue, talking about her 110 million followers.
“It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like s— when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”
The app is even deleted off of her phone and she does not have the password to it. Sometimes, she reveals, she wishes she could disappear from social media completely, even though that’s not entirely possible given how popular she is.
When asked about her relationship with the singer The Weeknd, she said that she will never talk about her relationships again because it will always come back to bite her.
Look, I love what I do, and I’m aware of how lucky I am, but–how can I say this without sounding weird? I just really can’t wait for people to forget about me,” she said.
