ABC has made it official – the network has picked up American Idol the 20 17th to 2018 TV season, just one year after the popular reality singing competition series gave what is seemed its final song on Fox. The move to a new reality competition series 1st surfaced after a report was leaked last week.
Cochairman of Disney media networks and president of Disney-ABC, Ben Sherwood, said in a statement on Tuesday “American Idol on ABC… That has a nice ring to it. Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor. America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever Idol.”
There is still no word on who will host and judge the TV series and ABC is currently saying that news will be announced at a later time. With Ryan Seacrest joining Kelly Ripa on Live! It seems like he is unlikely to return. However last week TMZ reported that Secrest is still very much interested in hosting the reboot and has outlined in an insane schedule that had him flying back and forth coast-to-coast over the course of 10 weeks.
