Production for the final season of Netflix’s hit series, Stranger Things, has officially wrapped in Atlanta. Filming took place at Cinespace Studios Atlanta, formerly known as EUE Screen Gems, where the show’s journey began over nine years ago.
The highly anticipated fifth season, consisting of eight episodes, was in production for most of 2024. Although Netflix has not announced an exact release date, the new episodes are slated for a 2025 debut. The season’s timeline will jump to the fall of 1987, about six months after the events of Season 4.
A Look Back at Production Challenges
Season 4 of Stranger Things premiered in May 2022, but delays pushed back the start of Season 5 production. Both the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023 contributed to these setbacks, prolonging the show’s return.
The younger cast members, who were preteens when the series began in 2015, are now in their early 20s but continue to portray high school characters. The narrative picks up in Hawkins, where the town remains plagued by the chaos unleashed by the Upside Down. At the close of Season 4, Max (Sadie Sink) was revived by Eleven after being attacked by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) but remained comatose.
Emotional Farewell to a Beloved Series
Actor David Harbour shared a glimpse of the cast’s emotional connection to the series. During a table read for the finale in October, he described moments of uncontrollable tears as the cast processed the end of the story.
Netflix has also revealed the episode titles for the final season: “The Crawl,” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape From Camazotz,” “The Bridge,” and “The Rightside Up.”

Since its debut, Stranger Things has become one of Netflix’s most successful shows. The Duffer Brothers, the series’ creators, received significant creative freedom throughout the production, which contributed to its long gaps between seasons.
