MCU’s Blade on Ice Again, As Predator Moves In

Date:

Key Takeaways:

– Blade’s debut, initially scheduled for November 2025, has been postponed indefinitely.
– Dan Trachtenberg’s next Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, will now fill that release time slot.
– MCU’s emphasis on quality could explain the Blade delay.
– Blade production has faced script challenges and director changes.

Blade’s Debut Delayed Again

You probably heard the news already: Blade’s 2025 release has been bumped off the schedule, again. The movie, a much-anticipated part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is still in the works, but we’re not sure when we’ll get to see it. The spot originally meant for Blade is now earmarked for Predator: Badlands, leaving the future of Blade uncertain.

Quality Not Quantity says Marvel

It might seem like bad news on the surface, but hold on. Kevin Feige, the big guy at Marvel Studios, believes it’s more important to “get Blade right.” He’s all about the quality of the movies, not just pumping out one after another. So, as much as we’re bummed about the delay, it could be a good thing if it means we get a better movie at the end of the day.

Predator Fans, Your Time Has Come

While it’s disappointing for Blade fans, it’s a different story if you love Predator. The prequel, Prey, smashed it in 2022 and proved that Predator can hold its own under Disney. If you loved that one, get ready for Predator: Badlands. This standalone Predator movie, featuring Elle Fanning, has nabbed the release date that Blade was supposed to have: November 7, 2025.

Blade’s Rocky Road

From the start, getting Blade into production was a task. And why wouldn’t it be? Wesley Snipes did the job in four movies, including his surprise cameos in Deadpool and Wolverine. Following his impressive portrayals, finding a new Blade hasn’t been easy. Then the Covid pandemic came and delayed everything. And that was just the start.

After that, there were problems with the script. Things came to a head when Marvel waved goodbye to director Bassam Tariq. This led to the first big overhaul of the Blade project. Yann Demange stepped in with a fresh vision and a new writing team. Yet, he also left the project in June, plunging the 2025 release date into doubt.

It’s now unclear when Blade will finally see the big screen. However, the switch with Predator: Badlands could mean MCU’s 2025 release list drops from four to three. We’ll have Captain America: Brave New World in February, Thunderbolts* in May, and Fantastic Four: First Steps in July. And Blade, we’ll see when it happens. Let’s hope it’s sooner than later.

Though we’re not sure when we’ll see Blade, there’s still a lot to look forward to in the MCU. With a blockbuster lineup in 2025, we’re certainly not short of superhero action. And who knows? There might be a few pleasant surprises along the way as we wait for Blade to shine.
