The Newport Beach Film Festival is all set to honor some of the industry’s best in 2024. The much-awaited honoree event will take place on October 20th at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach, California.
Meet the Star-Studded List of Honorees
Nicolas Cage, known for his role in Neon’s horror movie ‘Longlegs,’ is one of the stars to be celebrated. He’ll be walking away with the Icon Award. This superstar isn’t new to honors and accolades. He bagged the prestigious Academy Award for his remarkable performance in ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ (1995). Moreover, his role in ‘Adaptation’ (2002) led to another nomination. Some of his popular films include ‘Face/Off,’ ‘Vampire‘s Kiss,’ and ‘Moonstruck.’
Joan Chen, another honoree featured, will be recognized with the Career Achievement Award. Chen is a mastermind behind the film, Dìdi, which grabbed the Audience Award at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
Singer-songwriter Diane Warren will be going home with the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award. She boasts a record 15 Academy Award nominations. Some of her masterpiece songs include ‘Because You Loved Me’ and Aerosmith’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.’
More Awards and Honors
Another notable honoree at the event is Colman Domingo, who will receive the Maverick Award. Domingo is celebrated for his work in Netflix’s ‘Rustin’ and Mister.
The Actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste will also be celebrated with the Artist of Distinction Award. She’s recognized for her stunning performance in Mike Leigh’s ‘Secrets & Lies.’
George MacKay is another powerhouse to be awarded, bagging the Spotlight Award for his role in ‘The End.’ He’s popularly recognized for his role in ‘Peter Pan.’
Even more names deserving the spotlight include June Squibb, who will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Sheryl Lee Ralph will also be receiving the Artist of Distinction Award.
Finneas O’Connell’s Special Recognition
Music artist Finneas O’Connell will be honored separately on October 21 with the Outstanding Achievement in Music Award. Best known for his collaborations with his sister Billie Eilish, he has bagged Academy Awards for “No Time to Die” and “What Was I Made For?”. Besides, his solo music has also been highly acclaimed.
Moreover, on the same day, Terry Crews will be acknowledged with the Arts Champion Award. This award is part of the festival’s Sunset Series.
