Let’s dive into the world of superhumans, where our most beloved ‘hard-headed’ superhero, The Thing, is back with a fresh look. ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, the upcoming movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shared some exciting stuff from behind the scenes. So, let’s check out what’s new here, shall we?

Behind The Scenes with The Thing

A recent video from the movie set introduces us to the new version of The Thing. The best part? It looks pretty authentic and a lot closer to the image we have of our all-time favourite rock-skinned super-hero. Rumour has it that there’s actually someone inside that suit in the video.

In the previous movies, veteran actor Michael Chiklis, adorned an actual suit to become The Thing. Jamie Bell, on the other hand, went with motion capture for a completely digital version in the 2015 reboot. However, this time around, the character is going to be a little different.

All New Thing, All New Techniques

Ebon Moss-Bachrach, our new Ben Grimm aka The Thing, confirmed the adoption of motion capture technique for his character in this film. As he shared with Jimmy Kimmel recently, “We’ve moved past the era of uncomfortable suits. With our current technology, it’s a bit amateur to go down that road. In short, it’s more cosplay-ish.”

My guess? The suit we’re seeing in the set video is probably just a placeholder or maybe a reference for the other actors and the visual effects artists. They are really pulling out all the stops here, aren’t they?

Meet the Guardians of the Universe

Let’s also do a quick roll-call of the star cast. Pedro Pascal is set to play Reed Richards, the elastic Mr. Fantastic. Vanessa Kirby is our new Invisible Woman, Sue Storm. Flame on, as Joseph Quinn is on board as Johnny Storm, or the Human Torch. The talented Julia Garner is playing the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer. What’s more? The magnificent Ralph Ineson will bring to life Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds. We also have Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne in the mix in some secret roles.

A Peek into the Future

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ will commence Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Director Matt Shakman, known for his work on ‘WandaVision’, is promising something different with this film. He further revealed that this movie is built on a 1960s inspired retro-future concept, bringing what’s known and the unknown from that era together.

With the official title revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last month, a short teaser was also shared giving us a quick glimpse of Galactus! Well, for now, we don’t know much. But one thing is certain, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ is well on its way to hit the theatres on July 25, 2025.

Buckle up, comic enthusiasts! This fantastic journey requires patience but promises a lot of excitement. Let’s together anticipate the release of the film which promises to show us a side of Marvel we’ve never seen before.
