Netflix, the popular giant, has decided to axe plans for the expansion of the Army of the Dead Universe. The franchise created by Zack Snyder was geared up for further addition, but with the recent turn of events, it seems the zombie outbreak has been quarantined.

The Anatomy of the Army of the Dead Universe

Previously, audiences were hooked onto Snyder's zombie universe, captivated by a heist right amid an undead outbreak in Las Vegas. The film Army of the Dead paints the brave daredevil venture of a group of mercenaries led by a man who wants the biggest loot of all times.

Not willing to stop at just that, a prequel named Army of Thieves and a sequel Planet of the Dead were penned down. An animated series titled Army of the Dead: Vegas was also on the drawing board, narrating an origin story for Scott, the lead played by Dave Bautista. The show aimed to shed light on the heroic actions of Scott's rescue team during the early phase of the zombie apocalypse in Vegas.

Yet, much to the chagrin of eagerly waiting for more, Netflix has clamped down the shutters on the Army of the Dead Universe. Snyder and his wife, Deborah Snyder, confirmed this in recent interactions with The Wrap.

Snyder's Shift in Focus: Rebel Moon

Despite the unceremonious end to the Army of the Dead Universe, Zack Snyder isn't left without work. He's now pivoting to focus on his new sci-fi film series, Rebel Moon. As the universe of the undead falls, another universe of interstellar adventures rises, possibly offering more exciting plots and twists to look forward to.

Don't Mourn the Dead Just Yet!

All is not lost for the fans of the Army of the Dead though. If Deborah Snyder's words are to be believed, the franchise is not entirely dead. She hinted at a special themed experience based on Army of the Dead arriving at the Six Flags theme parks this upcoming Halloween.

Last Words and Lingering Myths

In a chat with Inverse last year, Snyder teased about the future of Army of the Dead characters, hinting at possible storylines. However, with Netflix's decision to halt the expansion of the franchise, the will miss the to explore these thrilling plotlines hinted at by the director.

So, we are left to ponder, will we ever get the chance to hear the lines recorded by the Army of the Dead cast for the canceled anime? Will we get to see if Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) and Gwendoline () reunite in Planet of the Dead? As of now, there are only questions, no answers.

Let us know how you feel about Netflix's decision to cancel the expansion of the Army of Dead Universe. Do comment below.

In the never predictable world of film franchises, hope dies last. Perhaps, Snyder's zombie world may return from the ‘dead' someday. Until then, we await the arrival of Rebel Moon.
