Mel Gibson plans to shoot a sequel to The Passion of The Christ.
Jim Caviezel confirmed he will reprise his role as Jesus in the planned film about the resurrection of Christ. “ThereĀ are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience,” he says. “It’s great. Stay tuned.”
Gibson has revealed very few details of how the new film will move forward. But Caviezel says he has been inspired in his talks with Gibson by the direction the project is headed.
“I wonāt tell you how heās going to go about it,” Caviezel says. “But Iāll tell you this much, the film heās going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. Itās that good.”
2004ās The Passion of the Christ, which GibsonĀ directed, co-wroteĀ and produced, was a major milestone in faith-based filmmaking, earning more than $611 million worldwide on a $30 million budget.Ā
It is the highest-grossing R-Rated film ever in North America with $370.8 million. The originalĀ followedĀ the last 12 hours of Christ’s life as portrayed by Caviezel.Ā
Gibson talked about his plans for theĀ PassionĀ follow to USA TODAY in 2016.
āThe Resurrection. Big subject. Oh, my God,” he said.Ā “Weāre trying to craft this in a way thatās cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing.ā
