Emerald Garden explores issues surrounding racial identity through the lens of award-winning Canadian-Chinese Filmmaker James Michael Chiang (JMC). For Chiang, who is half-Chinese and half-Caucasian, identity has always been a deeply personal matter, often wrapped in struggles to fit in and feel a sense of belonging. This personal connection has motivated him to study the theme of identity in his personal and branded works. Emerald Garden seeks to convey the message that regardless of skin colour and intersections of identity, we should all be accepted for who we are.
