The Role:
Time is hiring an Associate Video Producer to help create compelling short-form documentaries and series for a variety of platforms, including social-first programming.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of this team, reporting to and working directly with the rest of the video team in a highly collaborative and creative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Research, pitch, produce, film and edit video as directed by senior department leadership.
- Collaborate with editors and reporters – staff and freelance – to identify key news stories and plan video coverage.
- Work with reporters and editors to produce videos and embed related video content in stories on the site.
- Assist in the production of video by pulling archival materials, conducting research and background reporting, subtitling, transcribing, creating SRTs, recording, archiving and other tasks associated with video production.
- Collaborate with the social media and audience team for promotion on off-site social platforms.
- Pitch and book live streams for site and social media.
- Strategize with team for on-site presentation of Time videos
- Collaborate with editors and reporters to identify key news stories and plan video coverage
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of relevant video journalism experience.
- Must possess comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Premiere and a strong working knowledge of Photoshop, and collaborative tools like Google Drive and Airtable.
- Reporting, scripting, story development experience is key to this role as well as an ability to collaborate with colleagues in the newsroom.
- Ability to operate independently in the field when necessary.
- Sound news judgment and a strong eye for visual presentation
- Willingness to travel for on-location shoots
Preferred Qualifications:
- Field production/camera skills expected although this is not primarily a field-based role.
- Ability to set up a studio shoot, camera, audio, lighting, seamless, etc.
- Knowledge of how to use social media to find sources and seek out and distribute video
- Sound news judgement and curiosity about current events
