Project Description: “Don’t Go Swimming” is a narrative short film set in the secluded backwoods of Florida. This gripping story revolves around a group of queer friends who reunite for a day of swimming. As they navigate the dark waters of a remote lake, their past tensions and unresolved issues resurface, exposing them to a terrifying, unseen horror lurking beneath.

We are seeking talented actors to bring to life the complex and dynamic characters in this story. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to gain experience and exposure in the film industry, particularly in LGBTQ+ themed narratives.

Roles:

1. Billie: A tomboy lesbian in her early to mid-30s. She’s confident, strong-willed, and has a protective nature. Billie is the glue that holds the group together but finds her leadership tested as hidden fears and past conflicts emerge.
2. Christopher: A gay man in his early to mid-30s. Christopher is witty, charming, and somewhat sarcastic. He masks his vulnerabilities with humor but faces his own internal struggles as the story unfolds.
3. Brendan: A younger gay man in his early to mid-20s. Brendan is the fresh-faced, somewhat naive member of the group. He brings a sense of innocence and optimism but is confronted with the harsher realities of the group’s dynamics.

Job Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with the director and fellow cast members.
• Memorize and deliver lines with authentic emotion and clarity.
• Attend all scheduled rehearsals and filming dates, especially on February 16th and 17th.
• Contribute to character development and script interpretation.

Requirements:

• Must be able to portray a character in the specified age range and demographic.
• Prior acting experience is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work well in a team and adapt to dynamic filming environments.
• Must be comfortable with LGBTQ+ themes and content.
• Availability on specified production dates.

Casting Call: Gender Nonconforming Actors for Student Short Film

Job Details: We are seeking talented and passionate gender nonconforming actors for a student short film project. The film explores themes of self-discovery, gender identity, and acceptance in a unique and imaginative narrative.

Job Responsibilities:

• Jay (17-23): A gender non-conforming teenager raised as a cis-girl, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after a heated argument with her mother. Jay grapples with questions surrounding her gender identity and the courage to come out. The role requires emotional depth and authenticity in portraying this transformative journey.

• The Imagine (17-23): A future projection of Jay’s trans self, representing the manifestation of gender euphoria. The Imagine possesses no memory of their former self and longs for true existence in the real world. This role demands a nuanced portrayal of a character undergoing a profound awakening.

• Mother (40s-50s): A conservative parent who is deeply concerned and actively searching for her missing child. The role calls for a performance that showcases the emotional complexity of a mother grappling with the uncertainty and worry surrounding her child’s disappearance.

Requirements:

• All actors must identify as gender nonconforming and be within the specified age range for their respective roles.
• Previous acting experience is preferred but not mandatory. We welcome performers with a passion for storytelling and a commitment to bringing these characters to life.

Compensation Details:

• This is an UNPAID ROLE and NONUNION project.
• Meals, transportation, and on-set amenities will be provided.
• The filming location is in Jacksonville, FL.
